ABOUT
My goal in photography is to capture images involving the interplay of light, color, and texture in the natural world. My work focuses on abstract images of water, clouds, and plants, as well as traditional landscapes. I enjoy being outdoors, and photography allows me a means of expressing what I feel when I am there.
The play of the sun’s light is beautiful. It manifests itself in so many extraordinary ways that, even after having photographed for over 40 years, I am still surprised by how light reveals itself. One of my great joys is simply to go outside with my camera and see what I see. It could be the foam from a spent wave touched by sidelight from the early morning sun, fall colors reflected on rippling lake waters, or the day’s last light on clouds against a mountain.
At times I like to dive deep into the worlds that reveal themselves through macro photography, from the graceful curves of a flower, the bright hues of a new bloom, to the rough-hewn texture of a tree’s bark. The camera allows me to see things in entirely new ways. And I love water. I grew up bodysurfing in Southern California, and started bodyboarding when I moved to the Bay Area in 1989. I enjoy being in and near the ocean, seeing its waves, spray and seafoam. I’m also fascinated by rivers and lakes, as water, whatever its form, is ever changing with the wind and light.
My passion is to be in the middle of it all, soaking it in, trying to capture a tiny fragment of it to reveal its essence.
